make your own clothes better

Another idea about how to make your own clothes:

My friend just recently got a screen printing setup. Its basically a wooden frame (which we could have build ourselves, but that takes time) with a tight screen over it, and some paints. We just made some designs on paper, laminated them with packaging tape, and cut them out with an exacto knife. With a couple layers, we've made some really neat things.

This method is real primative. there's alos photo emulsion, where you take any picture and make a transpaency from it. then you project it onto some special paint and a very detailed screen printable stencil (its better than a stencil, but i cant think of the word) is made. If i were going to make lots of clothes, for a band or to sell on ebay or something, I'd certainly invest in some photo emulsion. but right now, the hand cut stencils are fascinating to me.

maybe its not really a way to "make your own clothes" but it is a a process used to make clothes, and you can do it yourself. I'm all about it.
